OKA at TEDxLondon

On 18 May 2019, OKA joined Makers Unite (www.makersunite.eu), and Refugee Nation, at TEDxLondon in Royal Festival Hall.

Our friends at Makers Unite (www.makersunite.eu), an Amsterdam-based enterprise, and The Refugee Nation showcased the production of Refugee Nation flags from life jackets that refugees used when crossing the sea during the European refugee crisis 2015-2016. A symbol of solidarity, life, safely and new beginning, this flag was used by the Olympic Refugee Team in Rio 2016, and was exhibited by major museums such as MoMA and the V&A.

Two volunteers from OKA did the sewing and assembling of the flag, while other OKA members talked about the Kurdish community in Oxford, our work  to support refugees and the importance of raising awareness of newcomers' contribution to the society. It was a priviledge for OKA to be part of such a major event which is aimed at rethinking the issues our society is facing today.
